Immigration Raid Leads to 5 Arrests in Phoenix

In Peoria, Arizona, it is being reported that a recent immigration raid at a landscaping and hauling business led to five arrests.  One arrest occurred on-site and the other four occurred off-site.

Manager of Berardi Enterprises, Kelli Bungert, told reporters that the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office arrested one worker inside of the Peoria office and later arrested four other immigrants while they were off-site, working at other locations owned by the small company.   She also said that one of the immigrants that were arrested is no longer employed by Berardi Enterprises.  Berardi currently has 20 employees total.

Yesterday, Sheriff Joe Arpaio said that the people that were arrested were facing both identity theft and immigration related charges.   Officers spent approximately two hours at Berardi headquarters searching and seizing documents affiliated with the illegal workers.

Since January 2008, the Maricopa County Sheriff's Department has raided 23 businesses that were believed to have hired illegal immigrants.
