The U.S. allows people to come into the country if they are suffering from persecution in their home countries. This persecution could be because of race, religion, political opinion, or nationality. If you fear for your life and therefore cannot return to your country, you could be able to qualify as a refugee under the Immigration and Nationality Act. A refugee has to meet certain criteria in order to qualify. The country they are from must be of special concern to the U.S. and they must be able to prove that they would be in danger if they were forced to return home. By being referred to the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program, you could be considered for application. In regards to applying for asylum, you must file the Application for Asylum and for Withholding of Removal within one year of entering the U.S. Contact an attorney to learn more about your case!
