Anti-Illegal Immigration Law Only Leads to 3 Arrests in One Year

An Oklahoma law passed last November to try and prevent illegal immigration has only resulted in three arrests and one criminal conviction, much to the dissatisfaction of lawmakers and anti-illegal immigration supporters.

An investigation by The Tulsa World, a newspaper in Tulsa, reviewed court records from the state's 77 counties to determine how many people have been arrested, charged, and tried under the law. The law is also known as House Bill 1804.

The arrests occurred in Sequoyah, Coal, and Seminole Counties. The one person convicted under the bill has yet to serve time in prison.

The bill, which is considered one of the most stringent anti-illegal immigration laws in the country, was established to track down "coyotes." Coyote refers to a person who smuggles illegal aliens into the country, usually under perilous conditions.

Authorities say that illegal immigrants who go about their business, such as to work, school, or church, are usually left alone.
