College to Help Teacher Avoid Deportation

A Bakersfield College teacher has been waiting for a decision to be made as to whether or not her work-sponsored visa would be paid to be extended. Under federal law, the employer sponsoring a worker must pay the filing fee of the extended visa. The Kern Community College District did not want to pay for the renewal of Natalie Bursztyn's visa, but now the community has supported her and asked the board to keep her on. The district will now pay the fees for her visa.
