Man Faces Deportation for Identity Theft

A man in Monmouth, Illinois has been detained by federal immigration authorities and now faces deportation after he attempted to use another man's identification.

According to police, the man tried to give the Secretary of State's office a Puerto Rican birth certificate and a Social Security card under the name Johnell Rodriguez. An employee discovered there was already a person in the system with the same name, birth date, and Social Security number.  The man also didn't match the picture on the I.D. card.

The man also did not have an alien I.D. card or a temporary residence card.  Police informed the man that he would be deported to Puerto Rico since that is where the birth certificate was issued. The man then gave police his real name, Omar Alcala, and told them he was from Mexico.

Alcala now faces charges for identity theft.  Once his criminal case is over, he will be deported back to Mexico.
