35 Malta Refugees to Enter the United States

News sources are reporting that another 35 refugees left Malta to seek a new beginning in the United States.  The refugees entered the U.S. this past week.

In May, the U.S. Embassy began an ongoing refugee resettlement program.  Since that time, 303 refugees have been resettled in the U.S.  The latest refugees are reported to have lived in Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia and Somalia.

The U.S. started the refugee resettlement program in an ongoing attempt to ease the burden that migration had been placed on Malta.  The United States realized that migrants in Malta were facing continual obstacles, challenges and dangers.

Jason Davis, leader of affairs, said that, "The program's success is a tribute to continued hard work on the part of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the International Organization for Migration, and the United States government, as well as many others here in Malta who have dedicated themselves to improving the lives of refugees in need of humanitarian assistance."

All refugees have been assigned a personal sponsor in the U.S. that has agreed to provide them with housing, food and clothing.  Sponsors will also provide a referral to medical care, employment services and other needed support services until the refugees transition and become self-sufficient.  It is hoped that with these services, the refugees will have a chance to understand U.S. processes and assimilate.
