Minnesota a New Immigration Hot Spot

Despite the fact that immigration slowed dramatically in the United States over the past year, the state of Minnesota is now ranking in the middle of states within the U.S. that have the highest number of immigrants.

According to a report issued by the U.S. Census Bureau, the state of Minnesota had more immigrants than neighboring states like Wisconsin, Iowa, South Dakota and North Dakota.
Several demographics pertaining to immigration in Minnesota were revealed in the Census Bureau's report.  Key demographics report that:

- In 2007, approximately 6.6% of residents were foreign born.  This means that Minnesota ranks 25th nationally.  Illinois had 14% foreign born residents in the same year.

- 9.6% of Minnesota residents speak a language other than English in their homes.  This means that Minnesota ranks 27th in the nation in this category.

- 4% of people in Minnesota speak English less than "very well".  In North Dakota, the state that ranks 47th or 48th in the nation in this category, the percentage is 1.5 in this category.
